Investments in green energy

The current energy mix is dominated by fossil fuels (coal, oil, peat), which sets the global energy system against a number of challenges and shortcomings as environmental pollution, resource limitations, declining return of investments in the sector, the existence of concentration in geographical terms. These problems are becoming much more aggravated in the view of growing energy consumption. Thus, the development of energy sources, is virtually with no other alternative.
With the development of the sector, renewable energy sources are becoming more competitive compared to traditional ones. According to numerous studies they have the potential to reach a share of 50 % of the total energy mix by 2050 and then even completely replace traditional sources.
To support the development of the sector in the long term, commitments are in place to reduce carbon dioxide emissions, which require increase of the share of alternative energy sources. They currently are accounting for only 4.4 percent of total energy production. Governments of several countries have announced measures to stimulate their economies, in which are also provided funds to promote the sector of renewable energy sources.
