After a highly competitive three stage selection procedure Karoll warded first place to Hristo Iliev in its annual competition for graduate students. Mr. Hristo Iliev is part of the research group for solid state laser and nonlinear optics at the Department of Physics (Sofia University). The jury assessed the subject of his dissertation “The Generation of ultra-short laser pulse in the near infra red (NIR) spectral range with a wavelength between 1 and 2 micrometers” as significant for the future development of laser technology as a whole. Mr. Iliev’s doctoral research is a part of a larger project coordinated by prof. Ivan Bachvarov, which aims at creating a new tunable source of laser radiation in the spectral region around 3 micrometers. The main results of the previous research of the doctoral students has been published in journals with highest impact factor in the field of optics and laser technology - Optics Letters ? Optics Express. Karoll provides a 10 month scholarship to Hristo Iliev.
